Golden Globe Awards 2024

The 81st Golden Globe Awards 2024 is all set to be broadcasted on television worldwide in January.

Golden Globe Awards, established in 1944, honor exceptional achievements in American and international film and television. Held annually in January, the ceremony is a key part of the industry’s awards season, culminating in the renowned Academy Awards. Eligibility for the Golden Globes extends from January 1 to December 31.
At the 13th Golden Globe Awards in February 1956, the inaugural Golden Globe in Television Achievement was presented. Subsequently, the 19th Golden Globe Awards in March 1962 marked the introduction of the first three permanent television award categories: Best TV Series, Best TV Actor, and Best TV Actress.

    1. The Golden Globe Awards commenced in 1944 without an official host until 1958, when Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, and Sammy Davis Jr. of the Rat Pack seized the stage, assuming the role of unofficial hosts.

    1. With eight Golden Globe awards to her name, Meryl Streep stands as the reigning queen of the Globes.

    1. Annually, the Golden Globe Ambassador (formerly known as Miss or Mister Golden Globe) assists in presenting awards on the grand night. Typically, the chosen ambassador is the offspring of actors, actresses, directors, or producers, a tradition initiated in 1962.

    1. The Golden Globe statuette boasts a 24-karat gold plating.

    1. Weighing an impressive 5.5 pounds, the Globe statuette commands a substantial presence.

    1. Opting for an unconventional approach in 1999, Jack Nicholson, a recipient of the Globe, eschewed a traditional acceptance speech in favor of mooning the audience.

    1. In 1989, the award for best actress (drama) saw a three-way tie among Jodie Foster (“The Accused”), Shirley MacLaine (“Madame Sousatzka”), and Sigourney Weaver (“Gorillas in the Mist”).

    1. The 2008 ceremony faced cancellation due to a Writers Guild strike, prompted by Screen Actors Guild members refusing to cross picket lines outside the event. The Hollywood Foreign Press Association substituted the usual festivities with a televised press conference to announce the winners.

    1. From 1958 to 1963, the Golden Globes were solely broadcast locally in Los Angeles. It wasn’t until 1964 that the telecast expanded to a national audience.

    1. The youngest recipient of a Globe is Ricky Schroeder, who clinched the award at the age of 9 for “The Champ.”

    1. Rejecting the Golden Globe for “The Godfather” in 1973, Marlon Brando protested “U.S. imperialism and racism” during the Vietnam War.

    1. Since 1961, the ceremony has consistently taken place at the Beverly Hilton Hotel.

    1. The manufacturing cost of a Golden Globe statuette is approximately $800.

    1. Both Renée Zellweger (2001) and Christine Lahti (1998) found themselves in the ladies’ room when their names were announced for their respective awards.

    1. On the night of the ceremony, awards are presented in 25 different categories.
