I appreciate this approach for two reasons. Firstly, if my individual stocks outperform the S&P 500, my entire portfolio stands to beat the market. Secondly, even if my individual stocks fall short of the S&P 500, my portfolio can still perform well because the S&P 500 has maintained a 10.14% annual return over the last 30 years.
